The Watch Goat
In honor of Chinese New Year, several top The Watch Goat brands adept at metiers d’ arts have designed watches that celebrate the goat, one of the eight animal signs in the zodiac. These special releases, crafted in pink gold or platinum and limited to 28 pieces each, depict the animal in stunningly lifelike fashion.
Ulysse Nardin – Classico Goat
To capture the beauty of this animal sign, the Swiss watch brand used champleve’ enamel on the dial of the Classico Goat timepiece. The resulting realism of the goat’s prancing figure is breathtaking and embodies the spirit of the year: a world of nature, green meadows and mountains.

Another horological creation in this series reflects the Year of the Goat by turning to the ancient art of Urushi, a Japanese decorative technique that uses lacquer and gold powders. This process of painting and sprinkling is achieved by hand-painting the dial with a resin made from a specific tree and then applying the gold dust using bamboo tubes.
The Watch Goat is available for purchase through Vacheron Constantin Boutiques in two 12-piece limited series. The models are available in pink gold or platinum and come with the choice of a white mother of pearl or black onyx dial, each featuring the Chinese plum blossom (in champleve’ enamel) at the 6:00 position on the dial.
The park and the wildlife agency are currently working on a project to capture mountain goats and release them into alpine habitats in the North Cascades. This will help ensure that the goat population remains within the park’s conservation objectives and helps protect visitors from these invasive animals. Capture and release operations will be conducted through a contract with a private company that specializes in aerial capture and transport of wild animals.
