If you’re thinking about a career as an insurance broker, or have been working in the industry for a while, you’ve probably heard of the RIBO license course. But what is it exactly and how do you get one?
What is the minimum insurance requirement in Alberta?
The ribo license course satisfies the basic broker preparation requirements established by RIBO to write the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) examination. It provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental insurance principles and personal automobile and property coverages. Frequent term quizzes are given to measure student progress and a review exam is provided at the end of the course to assist with preparing for the RIBO exam. Textbooks & exam fees are extra.
A RIBO license enables you to work as a general insurance broker in the Province of Ontario. It allows you to sell car, home and commercial insurance. It does not permit you to sell life or health insurance, for which you would require an LLQP license.
Level 1: This is the entry level individual RIBO license which allows you to act as a broker under supervision of a RIBO licensed Level 2 or higher individual. You can earn a Level 1 licence by passing the RIBO Entry Level Exam and the RIBO Unrestricted Technical exam or by attaining your CAIB Designation.
